recent work
Welcome to my cyber portfolio. It spans 45 years of both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional artwork. Included are oil and acrylic paintings, and sculptural work. I have always looked for combining materials, using mixed media to make collage, assemblage, and, more recently, montage. I use computer-modified digital photographs to create portraits, landscapes, and architectural digital paintings. I also use old photographs to create ancestral paintings and for images in my self-portraits.

My paintings tend towards an Expressionistic brush stroke with a touch of tongue-in-cheek Surrealistic imagery. They can be serious, whimsical, and sometimes outrageously fanciful. I will often use collage and other mixed media in my paintings. My computer art is an outgrowth of these. I consider them as digital paintings more than as manipulated photographs. I have done still-lifes, landscapes, and paintings of architecture, but my main interest has always been people: straightforward headshots, portraits of people in environments or situations, or mythical people of imaginary legends. There is also a smattering of portraits of the dogs and cats that have shared part of my life over the years.

I use a lot of toys in my assemblages, as well as other found objects, the detritus of our society. Earlier 3-dimensional work often commented on the impact of commercialism and mass media on my psyche and life. The design elements in these works often appeared scattered and sketchy, much like the experience of our consumerist society here in the United States. My more recent sculpture is a little more light-hearted.

Also in this site is my art education portfolio, which includes my resume and exhibition record in galleries and museums. There is also a partial list of art lessons I have designed for Middle School art classes. I have included examples of student artwork from these lessons.

Finally, there is a small links page to other artists' sites, including my official school website.

I always try to make my art in a personally expressive manner: creative, original, not constricted by society's or my own preconceived notions of what should or should not be called art. For me, art is a life-long journey of thought and exploration.
